Big Comedy UK launch their monthly night at The Waterfront this Saturday

Big Comedy UK the people behind The Southport Comedy Festival have teamed up with Waterfront Southport to bring you a night of top-class comedy on the last Saturday of every month featuring four of the finest comedians from the UK and international circuit.

The opening night starts this Saturday 29th February at The Waterfronts fabulous entertainment complex overlooking Southport’s Marine Lake.

The opening show features New Zealand comedian Matt Stellenwerf, Scottish stand up and impressionist Geoff Boyz and current Southport New Comedian of the year winner Lewis Coleman with Southport’s own Brendan Riley who hosts what promises to be “a fantastic night of comedy”.

Multi award winning Matt Stellingwerf has won four NZ Comedy Guild Awards, including Best Newcomer, and been nominated for the much coveted Billy T Award. Currently based in the UK Matt has toured extensively, performing throughout NZ, Australia, the USA & the United Kingdom, with dynamite short sets, and solo shows to huge acclaim.

He has enjoyed recognition on NZ television in Maori TV's Crack Up, Rhys Darby's Short Poppies, TV3's AotearoHA: Rising Stars and TV ONE’s Coverband.

Comedy legend and impressionist Geoff Boyz regularly plays in and around London as well as performing in numerous countries all over the world, including Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai.  He was one of the first comedians to perform in China. Geoff has also performed in Australia for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, as well as the Adelaide Fringe.

Geoff has worked widely across TV for both warm up and stand up including Dead RingersThis Morning and Live at the Comedy Store. On radio he has appeared on shows such as The Live Stand Up Show and Colin (BBC Radio 2), which he also co-wrote. Geoff’s theatre credits include his own shows Why? and Noises and Other Announcements.

Fast rising star Lewis Coleman was crowned Southport New Comedian of the Year at the Southport Comedy Festival in October. The nationwide search  sponsored by Waterfront Southport had over 100 applicants with 30 comedians going through to battle it out in two heats before the final on the closing night of the festival.

Although a relative newcomer, Lewis Coleman is already making waves on the comedy circuit, last year also saw him win the Cheshire Kittens (Preston) New Comedian of the Year aswell as being a finalist in the prestigious  Frog and Bucket Comedy Club World Series. With his boy next door charm, and family orientated set, this young comic from Leigh is fast becoming one to watch!

Host Brendan Riley’s Liverpudlian accent and lively blend of anecdotes, gags and inspired improvisation brings a refreshing blast of cheerful North Western humour and makes him a sought after headline act and MC. Brendan has toured all over the UK and abroad in Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Dubai and many overseas performances for the Ministry of Defence including a tour of Afghanistan with Jason Manford in 2014.
